Half of Us
Created by MTV to reduce stigma of mental health treatment and awareness of common issues for teens and young adults, this website includes education, testimonies from musicians, and resources for help.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, provides valuable educational, advocacy, and support resources regarding mental illness. Easy to understand summaries of many diagnosable issues can be found on the site here.
Relational Cultural Theory
A fundamental part of my own work with clients, Relational Cultural Theory contends that we are hardwired to connect with others and develop as people through connections. These growth-fostering connections are both mutually empathic and mutually empowering and lead to five good things: zest, sense of worth, clarity, productivity, and a desire for more connection. In therapy, which is also a growth-fostering relationship, we examine connections as well as a client's strategies for disconnection which keep him or her from fulfillment. Learn more about the theory through the Jean Baker Miller Institute.
